New Zealand Cricket's posted a loss of almost $2.5 million for the financial year.

New Zealand Cricket operates on a four-year financial cycle due to variances in revenue from ICC events, international television rights and inbound tours.

The organisation's chief financial officer Dave Mills says despite the loss for the year, they've accumulated $3.3 million in extra revenue over the four-year period.

He says income from the Australian home series, the World Twenty20 and the Champions Trophy helped boost revenue.
