The New Zealand sevens rugby captain DJ Forbes says he's never felt more proud of his side after they came from behind to beat Australia 24-17 to win the gold medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

The win secured New Zealand its fourth straight Commonwealth Games sevens title.

The New Zealanders looked down and out midway through the second half when they trailed 17-7, but stormed home with three tries.

Forbes says it makes him very proud as a rugby player and a New Zealander.

New Zealand beat Wales in the quarter-finals and England in the semi-finals.

England knocked out the IRB champions Samoa in the quarter-finals.
