The New Zealand footballers have been beaten 2-nil by Paraguay in their international friendly in Wellington.

Paraguay dominated the first half with their fast-paced attack, and took a 1-nil lead in the 22nd minute, after the All White's defender Ben Sigmund gave away a penalty and Nelson Valdez easily netted it.

The visitors soon extended their lead, after forward Edgar Benitez chipped the ball over the head of the All Whites' keeper, Mark Paston, and into the net in the 28th minute.

Despite some good attacking play from the All Whites during the remainder of the game, and a few accurate shots on goal, Paraguay's defence was too good, and the score remained at 2-nil.

The All Whites' defender, Winston Reid, was sent off in the dying minutes of the match, after a dangerous tackle on the Paraguay striker Frederico Santander, which saw him stretchered off the field.

The All Whties drew nil-all with Paraguay at the World Cup in June.
