The former All Black cooach John Mitchell says he will remain in South Africa as despite being stabbed twice in an early morning break-in at his apartment.

The Gauteng Lions coach was stabbed in his upper arm and thigh and received stitches in hospital before being released.

He says while he's not feeling great his injuries aren't too bad and he's thankful they missed the artery in his leg when they stabbed him.

But he's criticised security at the upmarket apartment after local media reports said the electric fence and alarm system had been disabled.

Mitchell's had trauma counselling but says he wants to stay in Johannesburg, where

his coaching has been widely praised since the Lions become competitive in the Currie Cup after failing to win a match in the Super 14.
