New Zealand has won two silver medals in athletics at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old runner, Nikki Hamblin, finished second in the 1500-metres event in a time of 4:05.97 minutes, 7/10ths of a second behind Kenya's Nancy Langat, who set a Games record with her gold-medal run.

In the decathlon, Brent Newdick also won silver, following a strong second day.

Newdick didn't finish lower than fourth in any of the final-day events, and managed two third places, in the discus and 110-metre hurdles, and second in the pole vault.
