Swimmers add more medals to tally after cyclists claim first gold for NZ

The New Zealand cyclist Alison Shanks has broken Australia's dominance on the velodrome claiming New Zealand's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games after charging to victory in the women's individual pursuit in Delhi.

Shank's beat Northern Ireland's Wendy Houvenaghel in the gold medal ride winning in 3 minutes 30.875 seconds to add another medal to the cycling team's coffers.

The men's cycling team of Eddie Dawkins, Sam Webster and Ethan Mitchell then claimed silver in the team sprint losing to Australia after Webster suffered a high speed crash near the end of the race.

The swimmers were the next to get amongst the medal mix with Glenn Snyders taking silver in the men's 50 metre breastroke and Hayley Palmer claiming bronze in the women's 50 metre freestyle to lift New Zealand's medal tally to 14.
