The New Zealand swimmer Glenn Snyders broke the Commonwealth Games record in his 100-metre breaststroke semi-final in Delhi, before Australia's Christian Sprenger broke it minutes later in the second semi.
Snyders recorded a time of just over one minute finishing first in the first semi-final.
Sprenger swum the second semi ten-hundredths of a second faster.
Snyders has qualified in third place for tonight's final.
