South Africa's Lions Super rugby franchise has been propped up by two wealthy businessman who've bought a 49 per cent stake in the franchise.

The Lions have signed an agreement with an IT billionaire and an international businessman and philanthropist in a bid "to aggressively develop the Lions franchise at all levels over the next few years."
