Cyclist Jesse Sergent has won a silver medal in the four-thousand metre individual pursuit at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Sergent finished the gold-medal race in a time of 4-minutes and 17-point-8-9-3 seconds, missing out on the Commonwealth title by less than half a second.

Fellow New Zealander Sam Bewley only managed fourth place in the bronze-medal race of the same event.

Australia's Jack Bobridge won the gold medal, while his compatriot, Michael Hepburn, came in third.

Sergent's silver follows the bronze medal-effort from cyclist Edward Dawkins, who finished third in the mens one kilometre time trial.

In that event, New Zealand's Myron Simpson finished in fourth place, while Marc Ryan placed seventh.
