The women's road race at the world cycling championships in Melbourne on Saturday could start earlier than originally scheduled due to a conflict with the Australian Rules Football Grand Final.

Last Saturday's AFL Grand Final between Collingwood and St. Kilda ended in the first draw in 33 years, meaning it will be replayed at the Melbourne Cricket Ground this Saturday.

The football match will draw more than 100 thousand fans to the MCG, while the world championship race in neighboring Geelong was anticipating to attract 50 thousand spectators.

Race organiser Michael Palmer says its unfortunate there is now a conflict and he'll considering starting the women's race at least a half an hour earlier.
