Delaying athletes' arrival the last option for NZ

Delaying the arrival of athletes for the Commonwealth Games appears the only option left for New Zealand team management, before withdrawing from the Delhi Games.

The first New Zealand athletes are due to arrive in Delhi on Saturday but the athletes' village is far from ready.

The New Zealand team's been allocated a different apartment block after chef de mission Dave Currie said their initial apartments were unihabitable.

Currie says people had been living in them and on top of hygiene issues there are also problems with plumbing, wiring, internet access and mobile phone coverage.

He says while the new accommodation is better it still needs plenty of work.

Currie says while New Zealand's first athletes arrive in four days, the Games don't begin until the October the fourth so there is some room to delay arrivals, assuming flight changes can be made.
