Federer pulls out of Davis Cup team to rest

Roger Federer has pulled out of Switzerland's Davis Cup world group qualifier in Kazakhstan this weekend saying he needs time to recover from his exertions at the US Open.

Having failed to make the final at Flushing Meadows last week, Federer's decided he needs more time to recover and relax so that he can finish the end of the year strongly.

Meanwhile the US Open champion Rafael Nadal is back home, modestly playing down suggestions that he is the "Spanish Special One" after winning his ninth grand slam title in New York, and he apologised for the early morning media conference after his overnight flight.

Nadal is taking a break from tennis, and the Real Mallorca shareholder watched Real Madrid play their home Champions League group match against Ajax.
