Saracens secured their first English rugby Premiership win of the season as a trio of home debutants earned the points in a convincing 28-13 victory over Sale Sharks at Vicarage Road.

The England international halfback Richard Wigglesworth kicked 13 points against his old club while Deon Carstens David Strettle and hooker Schalk Brits were the Saracens try-scorers.

David Seymour dotted down for Sale's lone score with Nick Macleod kicking eight points.

Bath's bruising 20-13 win over London Irish was the highlight of the other weekend fixtures.

Elsewhere, Gloucester squeezed home 22-21 against Leeds while Northampton notched their second win of the season with a hard-fought 20-16 defeat of Harlequins at the Stoop.

Champions Leicester were given the fright of their lives against newly promoted Exeter, recovering from 11 points down with 16 minutes remaining to run out 37-27 winners at Welford Road.
