Canterbury earthquake forces age group swimming champs to Wellington

The Canterbury earthquake has forced Swimming New Zealand to move this month's national age group short course championships to Wellington.

The championships are expected to attract up to 1000 swimmers, coaches, officials and supporters, and was scheduled for the QEII Leisure Centre in Christchurch at the end of the month.

But the complex's main building received some damage during the 7.1 magnitude quake, which has forced Swimming New Zealand to move the event.

The age group championships will now be held at Wellington's Regional Aquatic Centre at Kilbirnie on the same dates.
