Serbia ko defending champs in first world quarter-final

7:01 am on 9 September 2010

Serbia have upset the defending champions Spain 92-89 to become the first qualifiers for the semi-finals at the world mens basketball championship in Turkey.

In a classic quarter-final, Spain came from eight points down with four minjutes to play to draw level at 89-all with half a minute remaining, but Milos Teodosic buried a match-winning three-pointer from well outside the line with 3 seconds to play.

It was sweet revenge for Serbia who were beaten by Spain last year's Eurobasket final.

It's the first time in six years Spain have missed out on the semi-finals of a major international competition.

Turkey and Slovenia meet in this morning's other quarter-final.
