Less than a month before the Commonwealth Games begin in New Delhi, the army's been called in to combat an upsurge in mosquito breeding at the athletes village.

The Indian capital has a confirmed an outbreak of the potentially life-threatening dengue fever, carried by mosquitoes with the chairman of the local health committee saying the athletes village is in particularly bad shape.

The athletes village is located on the riverbed of the Yamuna River, a natural habitat for mosquitoes with local hospitals reporting more than 50 cases of suspected dengue fever each day.
