Rodriguez sets new benchmark

The New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has edged ahead of baseball greats Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx , registering 100 runs batted in for a record 14th time in his major league career.

Rodriguez reached the milestone with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of New York's 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The third baseman went into the game with 98 RBIs but added one more with a solo home run in the fourth inning, the 605th homer of his career,

Rodriguez recently became the seventh player to hit 600 home runs.
