Boks coach on shaky ground

6:28 pm on 2 September 2010

There's growing speculation in South Africa that Springboks coach Peter de Villiers could be sacked as early as Sunday.

Reports there say the outspoken de Villiers is in trouble after saying he supported the Bulls prop and accused murderer Bees Roux "100 per cent".

Senior rugby officials and even government figures are reportedly incensed by de Villiers' backing of Roux, who's been charged after a black police officer was beaten to death.

Some reports say de Villiers' comments are likely to trigger the removal of the first black man to coach the Springboks, whatever the result of Sunday morning's Tri-Nations Test against Australia in Bloemfontein.

Rugby Union officials are refusing to comment until after the match.
