The High Performance Director for Athletics New Zealand feels the Commonwealth Games diminishing status warrants the selection of more younger athletes.

New Zealand will have just 13 track and field athletes competing in Delhi next month with the New Zealand Olympic Committee basing its selections on a certain level of achievement.

But Kevin Ankrom believes the bar should be lowered for the Commwealth Games to accommodate more developing athletes..

Ankrom says this level of event is the stepping stone to Olympic Games and World Championships and so he'd like to see the criteria changed.
