Luke McAlister will make his first start at first-five eighth this season for North Harbour in Sunday's national provincial rugby match against Bay of Plenty in Rotorua.

McAlister is in line to make the All Black team for the last Tri-Nations match against Australia as a back-up No.10, now that Dan Carter is out following ankle surgery.

Harbour coach Craig Dowd has also made a change in his loose forwards mix, bringing in Tom Chamberlain to start at blindside flanker with Malakai Ravulo at openside flanker.
