A hat-trick from the English footballer, Andy Carroll, helped Newcastle United to an emphatic 6-nil win over Aston Villa, marking a memorable home return to the English Premier League.

Two goals from the midfielder Kevin Nolan and another from Joey Barton, ensured the third 6-nil victory of the round, following Chelsea's win over Wigan Athletic and Arsenal's victory over Blackpool.

Villa wasted a golden opportunity to go ahead when John Carew skied a penalty high over the bar after 10 minutes.

Two minutes later, Barton scored for the home side, before Nolan headed in at the second attempt just after the half hour mark, and Carroll made it three for the minutes later

Carroll scored the fourth after 67 minutes, before Nolan put another header in the back of the net.

Carroll scored the sixth for the side in stoppage-time to seal Newcastle's first points of the season, following their opening 3-nil defeat by Manchester United.

Carroll, the England Under-21 international striker, says he was over the moon with his hat-trick, which will surely have impressed national coach Fabio Capello.
