A 20th test century for Shivnarine Chanderpaul has steered the West Indies to 258 for six at stumps on the first day of the second cricket test against New Zealand in Napier.
Chanderpaul finished the day unbeaten on 100 exactly, after combining with Brendon Nash for a 163 run fifth wicket partnership, which resurrected the innings after the pair came together at 74 for four.
Nash made 74.
Two wickets late in the day saw the Black Caps finish with the upper hand.
Bowling for the Black Cap Dan Vettori and Ian O'Brien took two wickets each.
