Australia's dismissed South Africa in the first test in Perth for 281 giving the hosts a 94 run first innings lead after making 375 in their first innings.
Johnson's effort surpasses that of fellow Australian Mike Whitney's 7-27 against India, also in Perth in the 91-92 season.
