Manchester United hit three goals in a pulsating five-minute spell to overpower Japan's Gamba Osaka 5-3 in their Fifa Club World Cup semi-final in Yokohama.

United substitute Wayne Rooney scored twice moments after coming on, the other goals went to Darren Fletcher, Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo.

European champions United, heavy favourites to become the first British team to win the seven-team FIFA tournament, will face Ecuador's LDU in Sunday's final in Yokohama.

Adelaide United finished 5th following a 1-nil victory over Egypt's Al Ahly which earns them 2.26 million dollars, though they will have to share some of it with the other seven A-League teams and Football Federation Australia.
