Symonds supported by hotel management

The troubled-plagued Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds says he was the victim of an overzealous fan following reports he was involved in a pub fight at a Brisbane hotel at the weekend.

As Cricket Australia launched its own inquiry into the reported incident, hotel staff supported Symonds who said a member of the public acted unreasonably towards him, and the person was removed from the premises.

The incident happened after Australia had beaten New Zealand in the first cricket test at the Gabba, and some of Symonds drinking companions were understood to be members of the Australian rugby league team.
