Kiwis' World Cup upset spurred us on, say All Blacks

The All Black blindside flanker Jerome Kaino says their victory over Wales was inspired by the New Zealand rugby league team's stunning 34-20 victory over Australia in the rugby league World Cup final.

Like the Kiwis the All Blacks had to come from behind - they were 9 - 6 down at the break in Cardiff, before rallying with 23 unanswered points, beating Wales 29 - 9.

Kaino, who scored the last try in the last minute, says there's no cross-code jealousy over the league team's World Cup win; in fact it was quite the opposite.

He says it was hugely inspirational and there were about 100 people downstairs in their hotel bar watching the Kiwis' win on the big screen.

Kaino says a lot of the All Blacks follow league back in New Zealand and for the Kiwis to get one over their arch enemies was awesome and a big boost ahead of the Wales game.

The All Blacks captain Richie McCaw also says the players drew on the passion shown by their rugby league compatriots.

McCaw, the man-of-the-match against Wales, praised New Zealand for having upset their underdog status against overwhelming favourites Australia in the final.
