Third top 20 player confirmed for Heineken Tennis Open

A third top-20 player has been confirmed for January's Heineken Tennis Open with world No18 Nicolas Almagro of Spain a confirmed statrter.

He joins world number eight Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina and Spaniard David Ferrer who's world ranking it twelve.

A consistent player over the past few years the 23-year-old reached a career high eleventh earlier this year and is regarded as one of the fittest and strongest players on the circuit.

He reached the quarter finals of the French Open beating Briton Andy Murray along the way, losing to countryman, Rafael Nadal.

During the US Open he was involved in a six set third round marathon with Gilles Muller losing an encounter that lasted almost four hours.

Almagro has played in Auckland the last two years making the second round on each occasion.
