Ponting defends bowling decisions

The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has been fined 20 percent of his match fee and his team mates docked 10 percent for their slow over rate in the fourth and final test against India in Nagpur.

India won the test by 172 runs to take the series 2-nil and regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ponting's decision after tea on the 4th day to use his part-time bowlers to improve the over-rate has been widely criticised.

Australia's former captain Ian Chappell called it the most baffling captaincy decision he had witnessed.

Ponting would have faced a one test suspension had the over-rate not improved, leading many to suggest personal interest was put before the national team....
