Connolly called in to help Umaga's team

The former Wallabies coach John Connolly has been hired by crisis-ridden French rugby club Toulon.

The former Stade Francais and Australia boss has been invited by Toulon's millionaire owner Mourad Boudjellal to look into why the star-studded club isn't living up to their potential.

The decision comes after Toulon's disappointing return to the elite division suffered another blow over the weekend with a 42-20 hammering by Montauben.

Toulon now sit third last on the Top 14 table with just two wins from nine starts.

But Toulon coach Tana Umaga is refusing to accept that his days were numbered.

He says the week has been difficult, however, he believes they showed what they could do in the final 20 minutes.

Umaga says he doesn't feel any more under threat than he did before the match, admitting it's part and parcel of a coach's life.
