Wiki responsible for ruling Soliola out of world cup

Ruben Wiki is responsible for ruling New Zealand and Sydney Roosters centre Iosia Soliola from rugby league for six months, with further scans revealing he needs a full shoulder reconstruction.

Originally ruled out of the World Cup on Tuesday due to an injury in his right shoulder, an examination of Soliola's left shoulder has revealed more significant damage and he was due to be operated on today.

Kiwis team doctor Simon Mayhew says it means Soliola's likley to miss the start of the NRL season.

It turns out Wiki, New Zealand's most capped international, is repsonsible for the injury which Soliola suffered when trying to tackle Wiki on his memorable charge from a kick-off during the Warriors' NRL semi-final against the Roosters in Auckland last month.

Mayhew says Wiki, who's now reitred but is part of the Kiwis World Cup staff as a trainer, was unaware his run had caused any lasting damage.

Soliola was replaced in the squad by Wests Tigers forward Bronson Harrison.
