There'e been a spectacular finish to the Bathurst One thousand with Craig Lowndes in a Ford holding off fast finishing Greg Murphy in a Holden after 161 laps around the Mount Panorama circuit in New South Wales.
There was an element of controversy about the victory with Murphy claiming Lowndes should have been penalised for bumping him on the opening lap.
Lowndes appeared to veer into the side of Murphy's car and the four-time Bathurst champion battled steering problems as a result.
It's the third win in a row for Lowndes and co-driver Jamie Whincup while Murphy was just two and half seconds back after passing the Ford of Steven Richards with just a handful of laps remaining.
Lowndes and Whincup become the first men in 24 years to win a hat-trick, joining motorsport legends Peter Brock, Jim Richards and Larry Perkins.
