Team Kiwi Racing has been forced to pull out of this weekend's Bathurst 1000 after their car was extensively damaged in practice at Mt Panorama this morning.
PWR Holden driver Paul Weel hit a safety barrier and slid sideways onto the track with TKR's Chris Pither in a Ford then slamming into the driver's side door.
Pither walked away, while Weel is experiencing some lower back pain and has been airlifted to hospital.
Ford's Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes clocked the fastest time in the session with the pair chasing an historic hat-trick of Bathurst titles.
Stone Brothers Racing's James Courtney and David Besnard were second fastest, followed by New Zealand duo of Jason Richards and Greg Murphy in a Holden.
