The All Blacks first five Dan Carter, has warned fans at his new French club he's no Maradonna or a rock star and is not single handedly going to bring them success.

Carter has been officially presented to several thousand fans at Perpignan where he'll take up a six month contract in December.

Expectations are running high at the club which hasn't won the French league title since 1955.

Carter says while success is overdue the coach and players know if they're to win it'll be a team effort and not simply down to him.

He says he chose Perpignan ahead of Toulon, the other club interested in him, as there were too many New Zealanders at Toulon and he wanted to experience French life and culture and thought he'd only end up socialising with New Zealanders at Toulon.
