New Zealand has won the opening match of the Davis Cup tennis tie against China in New Plymouth.
New Zealand number two Rubin Statham has beaten the China number one Yan Bai, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
The tie is the Asia-Oceania group two final with the winner progressing to group one.
