The America's Cup challenger Team New Zealand hopes that a mini-regatta planned for Auckland in February could bring together some of the sport's warring factions.

All America's Cup syndicates have been given the chance to join the six-team regatta in which they will use Team New Zealand's two boats to select a winner to take on the hosts.

Long-time former America's Cup sponsor Louis Vuitton is behind the event which is aimed at keeping interest up while the defender Alinghi and challenger BMW Oracle continue their court battle over the staging of the next Cup.

Team New Zealand's managing director Grant Dalton says he doesn't yet know which teams will turn up, but he hopes the event will help heal the rifts.
