The National Rugby League says it will consider banning the Cronulla Sharks star Greg Bird for life if he's found guilty of assault.
Cronulla stood down the five-eighth indefinitely after he was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm by throwing a glass into his girlfriend's face.
Bird's out on bail and is due to appear in court on the 8th of October.
Meanwhile the NRL boss David Gallop has welcomed the club's move, saying if the allegations are proven they'll look at Bird's future in the game.
