Wellington ended a four-game losing streak with a 35-30 win over Canterbury in the capital on Saturday night.

The Lions were well in control in the early stages, storming out to a 17-point lead in the first half.

But Canterbury closed the gap to just five by halftime and going into the final quarter of the match the visitors had the lead.

A converted try to Wellington prop Alex Fidow with the last play of normal time kept the home side's hopes alive, locking the match at 30-30.

Centre Peter Umaga-Jensen scored the match-winning try for the Lions in extra time.

Two senior All Blacks featured in the match as they prepare to rejoin the national side in the US.

Hooker Dane Coles turned out for Wellington, while lock Sam Whitelock was in the Canterbury lineup.
