United were jeered by their own supporters as Burnley registered their first ever Premier League win at Old Trafford.
Burnley took the lead just before half-time when Wood smashed the ball into top corner of the net.
He also played a part in Burnley's second goal in the 56th minute.
United were booed off at half-time and full-time and large parts of the ground emptied with five minutes left.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side remain six points behind Chelsea and off the top four, while Burnley climb to 13th, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Leicester stay third after beating West Ham 4-1, while Tottenham are sixth after beating Norwich 2-1.

Win for young cricketers
The New Zealand under 19 men's cricketers have beaten Sri Lanka by three wickets at the World Cup in South Africa.

The New Zealanders chased down their target of 243 with 1 ball remaining.
Kristian Clarke hit a six with two balls remaining to grab the win.
Sri Lanka made 242 for nine with Adithya Ashok taking three wickets.
Opener Rhys Mariu top scored with 86, while Beckham Wheeler-Greenall made 80.
The result all but qualifies the New Zealanders for the quarter-finals.
Their final group game is against India this weekend.
Bronze for speedskater
Christchurch speed skater Ethan De Rose led the charge for New Zealand on the final day of competition at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne.
Competing in a mixed nation team De Rose looked confident throughout the knock out rounds, as his team advanced to the bronze medal final in the mixed team relay.
"We all skated really well today and we're so happy to come away with a bronze medal. This was a huge highlight, I definitely didn't think I'd end up with a medal so I'm super stoked."
De Rose combined with Italian Thomas Nadalini, Korean Min Seo and Great Britain's Olivia Weedon for the medal.
Earlier in the Games the 17-year-old placed 7th in the 1000m individual event and 10th in the individual 500m.
Meanwhile freeskiers Ben Barclay and Luca Harrington, as well as snowboarder Mitch Davern were in action in the big air.
Harrington and Davern put down solid runs to progress to the finals while Barclay bowed out in the qualification stage.
In the finals Davernfinished fifth while Harrington had a fall and finished 12th.
Following the competition New Zealand Team Chef de Mission Jesse Teat named Luca Harrington Closing Ceremony flagbearer.
"Luca's bronze medal in the halfpipe was a real highlight for the New Zealand Team at these Games. He showed maturity beyond his years in that competition and I have no doubt that he has a brilliant career ahead of him," said Teat.
The New Zealand Team finishes the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games with three bronze medals (Ethan De Rose, mixed nation speed skating, Axel Ruski-Jones, mixed nation ice hockey and Luca Harrington, halfpipe) and one gold (Katya Blong, mixed nation ice hockey).
New Zealand was represented by 20 athletes at the Games.
Sri Lanka on top in Test
Angelo Mathews scored a maiden test double-century as Sri Lanka took control of the first test against Zimbabwe at the close of day four at the Harare Sports Club.

Mathews was unbeaten on 200 from 468 balls after batting for exactly 10 hours to lead the tourists to 515 for nine declared and a first innings lead of 157.
Zimbabwe weathered a difficult period before the close to go to stumps on 30 without loss, with openers Prince Masvaure (15) and Brian Mudzinganyama (14) at the crease.
The uncapped Mudzinganyama is the sixth case of a concussion substitute in test cricket since the rule was introduced on Aug. 1 last year as he replaced another debutant, Kevin Kasuza, who batted well for 63 in the first innings.
Kasuza was struck on the helmet while fielding at short-leg on Tuesday and woke up on the fourth morning feeling dizzy.
The second test will also be played at the Harare Sports Club, starting on Jan. 27.

Aussie wins stage two
Australian Caleb Ewan won the second stage of cycling's Tour Down Under.
Ewan won the uphill sprint at the end of the 136km stage in South Australia to take the overall lead on the tour.
Last year's tour winner Daryl Impey of South Africa was second, while New Zealander George Bennett was 10th.
Ewan now leads the tour from Irishman Sam Bennett, whith New Zealand's Bennett 10th overall.
Today's third stage is 131kms.
Rashford says he'll be back this season
Injured Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford says he'll return before the end of the season to help his side's bid for a top four finish in the English Premier League.

"Thanks guys, I'll be back before the season ends to hopefully help my team claim top 4," the 22-year-old said on Twitter in response to a speedy recovery message from the Premier League.
Rashford suffered a stress fracture shortly after he came off the bench in last week's FA Cup third round replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested this week it could be months before United's top scorer was fit for training again.
The situation has caused some concern that Rashford could also be doubtful for the Euro 2020 championship starting in June.
United are fifth in the Premier League, 30 points adrift of Liverpool after a 2-0 defeat by the leaders at Anfield on Sunday.

F1 to raise funds for bush fires
Formula One, whose 2020 season starts in Melbourne on March 15, has announced an auction to help areas most affected by the Australian bushfires.
The sport said in a statement that drivers, teams, partners and the governing body were contributing exclusive items and experiences to be auctioned.
Items included racing gloves and shoes used by Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo last season, his first with Renault, as well as race suits worn by Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Alex Albon in 2019.
Teams have offered factory visits and meet-and-greets in the Melbourne paddock with drivers and team principals including six-times world champion Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto.
The FIA will provide a hot lap of the Albert Park circuit in the official safety car and a visit to race control during the grand prix while dinner with Formula One's managing director for motorsport Ross Brawn is also up for bids.
Hamilton has already said he is donating U.S. $500,000 towards the rescue and care of wildlife caught in the fires.

More fast times with Nike expected
Athletes wearing the controversial Nike Vaporfly shoes have backed themselves to set fast times at the Dubai Marathon this weekend as they make their case for Olympic selection.
Several elite men and women runners will wear the high-tech footwear used by athletes in stunning performances since 2016.
Elite athletes said they were expecting a gruelling race that is stacked with a roster of Ethiopians.
"I am here to win and if I win, I think I will be in the Olympic team," Ethiopian Solomon Deksisa said in Dubai.
Deksisa said he could shave more than 40 seconds off his personal best of 02:04:40 this week but dismissed any suggestion the Vaporfly he will wear would give him an edge.
"It's just comfort," he said.
Boston Marathon women's race winner Worknesh Degefa Debele said she was not worried about which shoes racers wore.
"I only believe in hard work. I don't care if anyone is wearing Nike or Adidas," she said. She will race in Adidas shoes.

Froome back next week
Chris Froome will make his competitive return to the peloton at next month's UAE Tour after a coming through a rigorous training block in the Canary Islands, the four-time Tour de France winner said.
The UAE Tour, the only WorldTour race in the Middle East, takes place from Feb. 23-29.
Froome has not raced since a horrific crash while training for the Criterium du Dauphin last June which left him in intensive care with multiple fractures to his sternum, spine, femur, elbow and ribs.
Kenya-born Briton Froome, 34, needs one more Tour de France victory to match the record shared by fellow greats Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.
British sprint king Mark Cavendish, who has won 30 Tour de France stages and is now racing for the re-branded Bahrain-McLaren outfit, is also taking part, as are Italian road champion Davide Formolo, Adam Yates, Wout Poels and Colombian sprinter Fernando Gaviria.

AFC to shift games out of Iran
The Asian Football Confederation has shifted two preliminary matches in its elite club competition from Iran to neutral venues because of security concerns.
Shahr Khodro FC were scheduled to host Bahrain's Riffa and Esteghlal FC were set to play Kuwait SC but both Asian Champions League matches were postponed after several governments issued warnings against travelling to Iran.
Local media reported that the four Iranian clubs in the competition, including Persepolis and Sepahan, had said they would refuse to play if they cannot host games in the country.
The move comes after Iranian forces shot down a Ukraine International Airlines jet in error on Jan. 8, killing all 176 on board amid tensions following the assassination by the United States of prominent general Qassem Soleimani.
