Heat on as Wallabies face record streak

6:46 pm on 2 August 2010

Australia's rugby coach Robbie Deans faces a massive task to take the heat off himself and his inconsistent players as they try to prevent a record losing streak against the All Blacks.

The Wallabies must bounce back from their 49-28 loss in Melbourne when they meet again in Deans' home town of Christchurch on Saturday night.

The eighth-straight loss to New Zealand has prompted the Australian Rugby Union boss John O'Neill to admit that "the dogs will be barking" about Deans' position.

O'Neill says the ARU still believes Deans is the right person for the job and he and the Wallabies will just have to respond.

However it's been 10 years since they won in New Zealand and there's been only one win, in Sydney, since Deans took over in 2008 and time is running out before next year's World Cup.
