The Central Districts opener Peter Ingram has replaced the injured Jesse Ryder in the New Zealand Cricket team's tour of Sri Lanka.
Ingram will travel to Darwin with the team tomorrow to spend a week preparing for the One-Day International tri-series in Dambulla.
The Blackcaps coach and selector Mark Greatbatch says they considered a few players but an experienced opener was required so Ingram got the nod.
Greatbatch says Aaron Redmond was in contention but was unavailable due to his wedding overseas and that opened the door for Ingram.
He says Ingram played in the last home one day series against Australia and as they were looking for top order cover he was the natural choice.
