Pakistan humiliate Australia in Leeds

6:23 am on 22 July 2010

The Australian cricket team has had one of the darkest days in its history - all out for 88 on the opening day of the second test against Pakistan at Headingley in Leeds.

Ricky Pontings decision to bat first looked questionable from the outset as brilliant swing bowling by Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul in overcast conditions brought about Australia's dismissal in just 33.1 overs.

The highest individual score in Australia's lowest total for 26 years was 17 from wicketkeeper Tim Paine.

Australia had gone into the match with a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and in pursuit of a record 14th straight Test win over Pakistan who reached 148 for 3 at the end of a day shortened by bad light.
