FIFA bonanza from World Cup

8:08 am on 13 July 2010

It'll be some time before FIFA declares its full income and profits from the World Cup finals in South Africa, but football's governing body is flush with money.

FIFA's revenue topped a billion US dollars for the first time last year, and accumulated revenue from the start of 2007 to the end of last year amounted to nearly $3 billion.

While the first World Cup to be held in Africa has been declared a roaring success, it remains to be seen if the 5-billion dollars it cost South Africa was money well spent.
