Lance Armstrong's ruled himself out of winning an eighth Tour de France title, after two crashes saw him finish the latest stage, almost twelve minutes behind the winner.
The 189km stage eighth stage in the French Alps, the first real mountain stage of the race, was won by Luxembourg's Andy Schleck, with Australian Cadel Evans gaining possession of the race leader's yellow jersey.
Schleck's now second overall, twenty seconds behind Evans, with last year's winner Alberto Contador third just over a minute behind.
On possibly his worst day ever in the race, the seven time champion Armstrong fell twice and now sits 39th overall standings, more than 13 minutes behind Evans.
Armstrong says his tour's over but he will stay in the race.
Schleck says he felt the peloton should have employed race etiquette and waited on Armstrong when he crashed.
