Cricket: Black Caps claw their way back into test

The New Zealand cricketers have battled their way back into the first test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi to be 56 for one in their second innings, trailing the hosts by just 18 runs.

Left arm pace bowler Trent Boult took 4-54 as the Black Caps dismissed Pakistan for 227 in their first innings to give the hosts a 74 run first innings lead.

At stumps on day three skipper Kane Williamson was unbeaten on 27 and Jeet Raval 26, with Tom Latham the batsman out.

Pakistan resumed on day two at 59-2 after New Zealand managed just 153 in their first innings.

The Black Caps kept chipping away to take wickets with Boult the chief destroyer while debutant spinner Ajaz Patel took 2-64 from 24 overs.

Neil Wagner picked up his 150th test wicket taking 1-30 from 18 overs while Ish Sodhi took one wicket.
