Group A has been decided at the World Cup football finals, and Uruguay and Mexico have become the first two qualifiers for the tournament's knockout phase, continuing the Latin American theme in South Africa.
Uruguay reached the last 16 for the first time since 1990 with a 1-nil win over Mexico who also went through, on goal difference, ahead of South Africa.
The hosts overcame a dispirited France team, who were reduced to 10 men for more than an hour, to win their final group match 2-1.
South Africa became the first World Cup hosts to fail to survive the group stage but at least restored some pride.
Group B will also be decided this morning with matches between Nigeria and South Korea, and Greece and Argentina, both starting at 6.30.
