Bold words from World Cup committee

1:12 am on 12 June 2010

After years of planning, construction delays and concerns about security the first ever football World Cup to be held on African soil is upon us.

The stadia are complete, the organisation in place, all 32 teams have arrived and for the next four weeks the eyes of the world will be on South Africa.

The head of the organising committee, Danny Jordan, says hosting the World Cup will be seen as another defining moment in South Africa's history.

The opening ceremony gets underway at midnight with the first game of the tournament between South Africa and Mexico kicking off at two o'clock.
