A bold proposal by Cricket Australia to radically alter the one-day domestic competition for next season faces a big stumbling block in the form of the 2011 World Cup.
Australian officials insist that mooted plans to change the domestic format to four innings of 20 overs each, as opposed to the traditional two 50-over brackets, will not impinge upon preparations for the tournament.
The Cricket Australia board is due to meet in Melbourne on Thursday and Friday with players and coaches nervous about the prospect of such a dramatic change so close to a World Cup.
The former Australian batsman Darren Lehmann, president of the Australian Cricketers' Association, says his preference would be to tweak the format -- initially, at least , to 40 over per side, akin to competitions in England and South Africa.
