Hayne over the moon in mixed night for NSW Origin fortunes

7:57 am on 9 June 2010

The NRL rugby league judiciary took eight minutes to keep Jarryd Hayne's State of Origin dream intact and just as long to shatter those of Penrith backrower Luke Lewis on a mixed night for NSW at NRL headquarters.

Parramatta's Hayne was cleared of headbutting Melbourne and Queensland Origin rival Billy Slater while Lewis was left devastated after being found guilty of a dangerous throw - the one week ban costing him a fifth Origin start.

Hayne says he's gutted for Lewis but very pleased with his result.

The Eel's star has been named at fullback for the Blues meaning skipper Kurt Gidley drops to the bench for next week's second match of the series in Brisbane.
