White Ferns start tour with win

The New Zealand women's cricketers have beaten an Australian eleven by five wickets in their T20 tour warmup match in Sydney.

Bowling first, Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr took early wickets before the locals fought back to be 70 for 3 after 10 overs.

The Australian eleven finished on 149 for 9 with Tahuhu taking 3 for 21 from her 4 overs and Kerr 3 for 15 from 3 overs.

The majority of the batters contributed in the run chase with Maddy Green unbeaten on 36, while Bernadine Bezuidenhout was with her at the end on 27.

The White Ferns got home with five balls to spare.

The first of three T20 internationals against Australia is in North Sydney on Saturday.

The tour is part of the White Ferns build up to next month's world T20 tournament in the West Indies.
