NZTR reminds starters of safety obligations

New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing is continuing its investigations into a potentially serious incident last Saturday at Riccarton in which the starter released the field before a barrier attendant had got clear of the starting gates and was sent tumbling along the track when the horses jumped.

NZTR's chief stipendiary steward Cameron George has reminded all starters of their obligation to position themselves to have a clear view in front of the barriers every time they start a race.

The shocked Riccarton barrier attendant was lucky to escaping with bruising.
